Pour tester le nouvel MP89 version Météor en condition d'exploitation, la RATP avait besoin de trouver des pistes disponibles. Une tâche ardue quant on sait le peu d'espace disponible dans le réseau ! La RATP loua donc à la SNCF une emprise sur la Petite Ceinture Sud au niveau de la Porte d'Italie. Après quelques travaux, la piste put accueillir les nouveaux trains en 1995 pour une série d'essais ininterrompus. La Petite Ceinture - que les Parisiens aimeraient bien voir renaître un jour - a ainsi retrouvé un semblant de vie.

Testing the new Météor MP89 tyred trains was impossible in the network due to the space limitation and the specificity of the new trains. RATP thus rent a section of a disused track belonging to the SNCF (French Railways). This track used to be a part of "La Petite Ceinture", literally the Small Belt, a railway track consisting of a loop cercling Paris, abandoned since the Thirties. The tests started in 1995 and ended in 1998. Parisians are still waiting for the real reopening of the Petite Ceinture.
